The two best parts of the film were the sixty seconds when a Beck song was playing and the moment Nina Simone’s painful credits sing-along (and this torture chamber of a film) finally ended.

The Times of Harvey Milk 1984
This film was screened on what would have been Harvey Milk's 85th birthday at the Castro Theater, which also happens to make multiple appearances in the film. The director, Rob Epstein, and others from the film including former assemblyman Tom Ammiano and former supervisor Harry Britt, appeared for a discussion. A moving and inspiring film (which also won the 1984 academy award for best documentary) highlights the accomplishments of Harvey and centers around the events that led up to his and Mayor Moscone's assassination by fellow supervisor Dan White in 1978. The documentary gripped me and left me full of emotion.

Nosferatu 1922
I watched Nosferatu at the Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco with a live score performed by Invincible Czars and they absolutely blew me away. I had seen a version of Nosferatu years back and the soundtrack definitely left more to be desired. Tense moments of the film were carefully amplified with drawn out strings and other creepy instrumentation. They even did some live foley work, adding subtle sound effects to scenes. On its own, Nosferatu stands as a genuinely creepy film. The makeup, sets, and cinematography blows me away for a 1922 production.
