Action-horror-romance — is there anything The Gorge doesn’t have? This flick was effortlessly watchable, as were Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy. Taylor-Joy in particular is endlessly charming and brings a wicked amount of fun and energy to her role as a kickass sniper and is just a plain old badass. The creature designs are fantastic, and there’s a lot of really intriguing visuals to behold throughout. Just a fun, fun movie. This was a blast.

Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley give career-best performances, while Coralie Fargeat taps into some Kubrickian and Cronenbergian veins, not to mention Bryan Yunza, and makes it a style all her own. I am absolutely amazed the Academy Awards is recognizing this movie or anybody involved with it.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 2016
Rewatching this, particularly in light of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, I can’t but reflect on how badly Warner Bros. screwed over Snyder and Henry Cavill. It’s a damn shame Snyder wasn’t allowed to realize his five-film vision or that the suits at WB never understood just how good they had it. I hope James Gunn has better luck putting together his revamped DCU film-verse, but I really regret we never got all that could have been with this Snyder saga.
