Hugh is like an organic instrument, and its operator. His weathered face and suave pitch are perfectly in his control, calibrated long ago, dependable. Like a wise old…like, tree. Like a fledgling ent.
The “which one is true” concept was interesting at 18, but it’s tedious to watch others wax on it these days. Now that I know everything.
Nothing great, but refreshing and freaking Shakespeare among the rest of the pack of current horror. Misses more tropes than it lands on (but still bullseye’s a couple).
I can’t put my finger on what is missing from this thing. Since you can only compare it to another Quentin movie, there’s just something not quite cinematic enough to keep up with the pack? Both halves drag a few minutes here and there, the second a lot more.
Having said that, I love love the first half of this movie. The whole bar scene, the crash, Hold Tight, the Sheriff (I’m gonna tell you like the lord told…
Don’t read anything further. Get a Shudder trial to watch this on an empty stomach. Goes way beyond gore and torture pxrn. It’s the conceit behind the ideas that’s terrifying. “Reagan with the crucifix? Hold my beer…” Legitimately had trouble going to sleep after this.
