I liked this movie, I really wanted to love it. The cinematography and themes were excellent, but a wishy washy plot that took itself very serious and then very unserious paired with a bit of bad acting took me out of the experience at times.
Still, a fun watch and one I’d love to return back to.
What a fantastic movie.
Movies, I should say, because Parasite is really split into two separate films. The transition from a fun, predictable, lighthearted plot to what the second half becomes is as seamless as it was shocking. I was on the edge of my seat until the very end. Bong integrated themes of class division, material wealth, the societal “line” to not be crossed, and many more I’m probably not thinking of right now into the film effortlessly, and I enjoyed the use of symbols to help illustrate these points.
This definitely deserves a rewatch. Perhaps in that new black and white edition next time.
Solid Scorsese flick. 3.5 hours for a movie is very long, but strong casting, great cinematography, and a steady plot (that felt slow at times) built a compelling story that I really enjoyed. Some scenes felt a little unnecessary but overall I enjoyed how the pieces came together. -1 star for the ending, not my favorite.
Unrelated, but the Taylor Swift movie from the theatre over could be heard during the entire viewing. C’mon AMC.
