I liked it but like something felt stale about it idk. I like the concepts they discussed and the acting from grant and the girls was cool to watch, but not really doing it for me. Would’ve given like 3.25 if I could

YO what a fucking cool ass movie—editing was CRAZY cinematography was CRAZY Acting was sick as fuck. Only thing was the pacing was a little weird for me, but like i think it mostly stems from the 3hr play version being sliced into 2hrs. I would give this 4.25 if i could, but i’ll just stick with the 4. Very visually stimulating and thematically poignant to today…gotta keep singing at that piano because black art is identity. Black art is and can always be defiance

Acting was spectacular holy fuck wow. It makes me want to watch more Film4 stuff because I was very invested on this movie. I’m not the biggest movie go-er but there was a visceral-ness that wasn’t over dramatic, in fact, it was really subtle, but it got me invested i think. However, in reflecting with friends, i do see how the this tale has been trekked time and time again and the pacing at the end didn’t work for me at the end because I was ahead of the storyteller/narrative. 4 big ones cuz my heart is still sore

Why did I finish this movie in the morning? Why did I break my heart before the day had even begun?

Really enjoyed how the theatrical feel of the movie accompanied the content regarding theatre and film. Very cool to see those fades to black like we had ended another scene. This came through in the dialogue too. Fucking acting performances? Forget it…talent was phenomenal. Wasn’t absolutely life changing necessarily for me, but it’s just such a solid film.
