atp the discourse is so insufferable it's made me go back to my initial reaction: while it's visibly striking and well-acted, this movie simply isn't very good and doesn't know what it's saying at all and i don't care about male directors's perspectives on female sexual repression or "some female victims think being raped was HAWT and YEARN for their male rapists" because they are truly obsessed with this topic. it's not something fresh and subversive like 21-year-old letterboxd libfems seem to think. it's been done into the ground.

My Old Ass 2024
knowing the ever-present "lesbian until the Right Man" homophobic belief in our society, it's quite gluttonous to think your experience is soooooo special and sooooo important that you need to make a movie about it despite knowing what straight people will get from it. and it's sooooo boring too like surely there's things in your life that aren't as boring as you thinking you're a lesbian and then meeting a Guy.
the Right Man is played by a rapist btw.…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
surprisingly reductive? a woman having to let a man rape her to save everyone just feels a bit tired as an ending to a film in 2024, doesn't it?was really expecting more. there's nothing new here.
two stars for lily-rose depp's acting, some of the visuals (but definitely not as visually impressive as i was had hoped), and the score that plays during the sacrifice scene.
