Having not seen any of the previous films in the franchise, I enjoyed the tongue-in-cheek metacommentary and the mystery of Ghostface’s identity. Fans will probably appreciate the return of franchise veterans like Courtney Cox and David Arquette more than I did, but the writers did a great job of conveying their characters’ importance and context to where I understood their general involvement and relationships between each other prior to the film’s events.
