    Novocaine

    ★★★½

Novocaine is a fucking blast. It's a small scale film with a modest budget (17 of these could be made for the price of Netflix's The Electric State) and at no point does it feel cheap or half-assed. It's put together very well and is one of the most fun action movies in recent years. Jack Quaid is incredibly charming and the set up of his character and disability is deeply endearing. And then comes the brutal action that pulls…

    Snow White

Songs feel like they're in the wrong movie, the CGI dwarves are haunting to look at, the big story changes are all for the worse, and the Beauty and the Beast (2017)-esq. style just feels a little wrong. It's pretty at times, some original beats are in tact, and Rachel Zegler did a good job, but nearly every other aspect is jarring. Not as atrocious as Pinocchio (2022) but Snow White is rough.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

    ½

300 million dollars, 5 writers, countless reshoots, and 15 years for the cinematic equivalent of stale bread. It was all so meh. A story that's largely too tame then suddenly too obscure, bland characters, dull action, oddly bad VFX, overly long, and utterly lacking the Indiana Jones personality. It's also worth noting how off-putting the constant ghoulish CGI Harrison Ford was. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a bland, forgettable, nothing-movie that doesn't need to exist.

    The Electric State

How the fuck did this cost $320 million dollars? The VFX is good, but the movie feels void of all stylistic flare and creativity. It looks, feels, and plays out like generic studio slop even when the VFX looks its budget. It's not the worst thing in the world but if this is what they manage with such immense resources at their disposal—it's ass on principle. The Electric State continues the Russo brothers' emerging trend of bloated budgets for bland, generic, so-so films.
