Astounding on a technical level, but I never felt completely taken by it emotionally. Was lacking just a little something to take it to the next level for me. They really managed to get the most movie out of this budget though, the scope is undeniably impressive. Could have been even longer tbh, I think we needed some more time with the characters to arrive at the conclusion we did. Second half was… interesting

The disintegration of youth heightened to Shakespearean tragedy. Yang’s direction is really something to behold; his frames ache with emotion despite constant physical distance. The use of light and shadow is nothing short of breathtaking. Still can’t fathom that the majority of the cast were non-actors.

An epic in every sense of the word.

    What a film.

There is not a single moment in this that didn't feel genuine. Both actors give flawless performances that would be considered Oscar-worthy in any other film of more prominence. Haigh's subtle direction elevates the piece far beyond any of its kind, each frame pulling us deeper and deeper into these men's lives. It is more than apparent that he is one of the most talented living directors.

    Definitely one to revisit.
