  cool visuals, great acting, but really struggled to engage with the storyline and found the more surreal sequences didn’t really add anything for me beyond confusion and further distancing from the characters. maybe i’m not deep enough to understand it

  I have mixed feelings about this movie. It was very raw and beautiful and the actor of hush puppy was absolutely incredible - i loved her little internal monologues, particularly in the end sequence. but i also didn’t enjoy it that much? can’t put my finger on it but it sort of felt like indie movie trying to forcibly make you feel something really profound without really giving you the tools to dissect it. maybe i’m just not sophisticated enough to understand it
