An unflinching portrait of love, isolation and addiction, where loneliness features as a separate, stifling character in its own right. William Lee’s haunting melancholy is underscored by his quest to attain a hallucinogenic drug in the South American jungle, all for the painful purpose of trying desperately to understand someone who remains doggedly out of reach. The three nirvana songs lined up in the first act feel like a tribute to Burrough’s friendship with Kurt Cobain and a fitting choice for a movie who’s main character reflects so much the struggle of foiled connection
