One of my all time favourite films. The Handmaiden is a film that spins what you thought it was giving in the first place. The film goes chronologically through the eyes of the Korean handmaiden, and just as you think you’ve worked it all out, the film goes back to the start and shows you what is truly going on from the eyes of the Japanese Heiress.
A queer period psychological drama filled with beautiful cinematography, a swelling orchestral emotive soundtrack, a delicately chic and whilst glamorous wardrobe, roaring sexual tension and a satisfying ending - rare for queer story arcs.
