The Léa Seydoux’s performance in the last scene earned this film a star. Otherwise incredibly droning film.

I am all for slice of life and poetic observation, yet I found this film to be indulgently full of nothing.

Of course Isabelle Huppert was a joy to watch as were some of her co-stars. But she is truly one element holding the film together…

Some of the non-actor performances are really good but Frances McDormand often stuck out like a sore thumb. Low key a little tired of faux realism made by the upper class/the romanization of blue collar lives. Showing joy is not the same as romanticizing. Hope needs not be devoid of true hardship. Of course I want to celebrate diversity and want more women directors being celebrated and for that reason I really really wanted to like this film but alas.

A sweet moment in time, loaded with so much more. I really enjoyed the performances and the slice of life it provided. Quiet, lovely and succinct.
