The Guillermo Del Toro's Hellboys are so epic, but this Hellboy felt like more a return to the comics than any other iteration. This movie is a solid grindhouse-esque horror offering. The big guy is as unapologetically badass as ever while sussing out creeps and ghouls in Appalachia. The jump scares were so damn good, and who doesn't love a good ghost story full of witchery and blood feuds. This movie overall is just well-crafted horror that wastes no time getting going. Love.

Otherwise known as: The descent into madness made wildly fun and captivating. Malkovich drew me in while Edebiri's skepticism kept me grounded. I was also too busy getting angry at all the microaggressions her character had to grin and bear through during the setup to notice where things were going until the long bus ride. Fight or flight mode activated. A24, you have distilled funny and creepy into an art form.

This satire challenged me, humbled me, and set my brain on fire while Mia Goth laughed through the flames.

    This is cinema.

How much of ourselves do we give others and how much do we keep for ourselves?

From the first frame, Rebecca let's us into her cam girl world--the loose human connectionsa, idiosyncratic requests and compromises made to others and herself.

This one is a quiet, beautifully done NYC slice-of-life film that felt deeply personal. So glad I got to see this one at Sundance!
