I am halfway through this movie as we speak and I don’t know if I can finish it actually. Obama-era liberalism was certainly a hell of a drug, but on this side of the Biden administration, this movie makes for a bad, bad trip. I just never thought Uma Thurman and Lil Jon’s Get Low would be in my nightmare blunt rotation. good news for Alex—he has a great taste in music if the mounted Rumours, Wonderful Wonderful, and Good Kid M.A.A.D. City record sleeves are anything to go by.

3/21/25: I finished this movie but at what cost.

the worst thing a movie can be is not bad, is not inaccurate, is not underutilizing of the aesthetics of the time period the story is purportedly set in. it’s BORING. especially when the premise has promise. like how dare you.

I am no priest, I am no nun, but I was once a teenage girl at a Catholic school. Which is not unlike spreading and dodging gossip in the conclave, as you can imagine. The use of light, placement, and color did a lot more for the cardinals than the 2012 line up of classic instagram filters did for us, however. I spent a good deal of this movie with my hand over my mouth.

first time watching this movie is about questioning your sexuality. second time watching this movie is about questioning the sociopolitical implications, the number of actual egyptian people involved in the making of this film, and exactly how easy it is or isn't to pull off the butch haircut brendan fraiser is kicking ass and taking names with. third time watching this movie is nirvana, i'm assuming.
