I really loved The Last Showgirl. Found it really moving, with a melancholy beauty, and Pamela is perfect in the role, a really powerful performance. Should have been Oscars nominated and would have tied with Demi for my favourite lead actress and it would have come joint second if it had got a deserved Best Picture nomination.
Leeds International Film Festival 2023
Film 8
A big, beautiful, warm, comforting hug of a film, leisurely in a very Japanese way, as a cast of wonderful, idiosyncratic beautifully drawn people that it’s a joy to spend time with work in and try to save their local bathhouse. It’s pure delight, funny, and just made me feel warm and snuggly, like I’d been wrapped in a warm blanket or was back in Japan. If there’s a better film this Leeds International Film Festival - LIFF we’ll be in for an incredible year! One of my films of the whole year!
Brass Eye nerd nirvana, seen in the prrfrct surfoundings of the greatest cinema, the Hyde Park Picture House in Leeds, today. Unseen footage as genius as what ended up in the show, made more special by Michael Cummings being there to give more insights.
