  If there’s anything I’ve learned from Charlie Kaufman it is that he is a giant film nerd. Not in a historical sense—rather he is concerned with how films are written (his love of words is plain to see “it’a just interesting.”) and how can he play with our understanding of film grammar. This is all to say that Anomalisa is, in my opinion, an exercise in formality.
