SPOILER ALERT
What was great about X and Pearl was that they were grounded in the gruesome reality. But it seems that Maxxxine got carried away with paying homage to the films of its era and tried to pull off a genre mix that just felt forced. The father antagonist lacked so much character depth compared to Maxine that he and his cult seemed to come from a different movie. The whole third act was pretty disappointing, or maybe I shouldn’t have expected something different from a picture that was trying very hard to cosplay for a 1980s B-movie?Translated from by
