  Back to the cinema!

  It was really great to be back in that dark room connecting with the something on the big screen.

  A lot of energy and emotion here, especially during those big speeches. The filmmakers captured a real and raw beauty in the characters but there was also so much tension in their fight.

  This film is blunt and relentless in its depiction of a destructive society and its broken system.

  Take Battle Royale but relocate it to the streets and the schools. Youth is the victim but by the end, in all the chaos and rage, everybody loses.

  Annihilation 2018

  I think this is probably one of my favourite horror films. It hasn't been widely dubbed a horror film but it had all the hallmarks for me. Like, this is skin crawling uncomfortable horror. I definitely got John Carpenter's The Thing vibes, in a good way.

  The scale and ambition of this film is very impressive. At times I wasn't sure about some of the visuals, especially in the final sequences, but in retrospect they added to surreal spectacle Garland created. Interested to revisit soon.
