My favourite musical seen 10 times on stage. And I will admit I felt the studio was splitting the film in two was simple to milk the cash cow, but for me it worked.
Chu opens up the world perfectly, the sets, costumes, CGI and numbers pop on the screen. I loved the little tweaks to certain scenes, like Elphaba’s childhood scenes, her first meeting with Fiyero and the attempt to escape the wizards guards.
Enrivo gives Elphaba the right…
Eisenbergs’s script and direction are subtle and he plays to his strengths as character. The difference in character for the cousins is handled well, but Culkin steals the show in this very bitter sweet European trip.
This film had a lot of ideas but sadly not all of them are pulled off. And it also recycles a few well used ideas. But the direction is strong, the cinematography, edit and sound back this up. And the family are likeable which makes a change.
This is a dumb blockbuster of the hugest order. And having read the whole book series the movies are loosely based on. They have took a little bit here and a little bit there and then blended it and come with a whole bunch of other crazy ideas.
But with this in mind I left my mind at the door, and with this I could enjoy it more than the first.
