"There was a lot of grief, and fear, and pain, but I've never regretted it, nor envied anyone. It's just fate. It's life, it's us. And if there were no sorrow in our lives, it wouldn't be better, it would be worse. Because then there'd be no happiness, either. And there'd be no hope.

Watched again for the first time in years.
A strong sense of style and confidence in the movies characters leaves Smile with such a memorable experience. I loved watching this when I was 7 years old and I still love it just as much.

A beautiful reimagining of beauty/desire genre. Instead of copying or directly borrowing from types of films precursing, Luca instead learnt from classics like A room with a View, Maurice. Or the works of Rohmer.

    My favourite of 2018.

Each time i’ve watched this ive either watched drunk, high or both. I’m into the way this film lets me learn something new every time, starting with noticing the batnips, into your 40th watch and hearing Jim Carry wanted to shave a question mark into this scalp but was undergoing divorce hearings at court so he couldn’t.
