When it comes to my favorite directors, there are none quite like John Carpenter in my book, and my personal film of his is the 1978 classic that refined the Slasher genre into what it is. With moody cinematography, a creepy score, wicked direction, and a force of pure evil that still defines my concept of terror to this day, Halloween is a film I find myself returning to multiple times a year, even after the holiday has passed.

This is one of those special films where, even though some audience members may not find it “scary,” no one can deny the disturbing implications of the narrative and dramatic power of the film’s core themes and idea. One of my personal favorites.

Quite possibly my favorite film of all time, this classic has some of the best moments in Cinema and is easily one of the greatest sequels of all time. Hot take, I know.
