  I just wanted it to be so much more than it was. I think what makes things scary in movies comes from an attachment to characters and investment in their relationships/safety, which I just didn’t feel. The only reason I thought they were in love is because they kept saying it. Also idk if it was just our theater but it was like insanely loud

  Was a bit more heartbreaking to watch bc my brother told me it’s the most relatable coming of age movie he’s seen. The world feels so authentic-partially because of a great script and partially because of the casting/actor chemistry. I love films that deal with race and gender in the way this did. Unfair treatment in family dynamics and insecurities about being/looking/sounding different are all present but not part of a larger argument about what’s “right” or “wrong” and not…

  the color pallets in contrast with the tone were so amazing! it looks like an american fairytale but portrays a family that’s supposed to be far away from our collective consciousness. damn i loved this movie. also moonee is probably the most believable child actor i’ve seen
