Hugh Grant nails the charming-but-terrifying intellectual. His house is actually so scary I hated it. The script is really the best part. Loved that they explored religion in a horror setting without the usual tropes of devils, scary nuns, and all that. Definitely give this a watch.
As a midwesterner with many family members in the insurance industry, this hit home. “Sometimes you gotta show a little teat.”
A fun watch but they went WAY too easy on the dad. He felt guilty for like, two minutes, about all the danger he put his kids in, and then it was like nvm all better! This lacked depth and a main message for me, other than I am now celebrating Noam Chomsky Day.
Halfway through watching this movie for the first time, I started looking forward to Christmas 2024 knowing I would be able to watch it again. Delightful in every sense. The setting, the acting, and the humor combine to make this an instant holiday classic.
