  not much to say about this, I'm not crazy about the style, tone, themes or plot but it was a decent time at the cinema. might have helped if it had characters, but I feel pretty comfortable that lunch was just doing something here that doesn't interest me. the more I think about, the more I'm realising that despite loving some of his work I don't especially care for what lynch does...

  there is a huge pool of films across the years of feedback loop of American noirs into Japanese crime cinema and more neo-noirs on both sides too, a cinema ouroborous that this film seems to pull from gleefully, crating a hellish postmodern story with bags of style.

  found this an instructive experience regarding what I like about slow cinema. some good raw materials here but it ended up lacking emotional resonance and its spiritual exploration too often felt like it was repeating the same beats or devolving into abstraction, the thematic threads I picked up never really cohering into anything more.

  definitely enjoyed it but a frustrating experience that ended up breaking a cardinal rule: if you're going to run for 3 hours you really should not peak with your opening scene.

  shockingly bad, like the worst roy andersson fascism skit stretched out to 100 minutes, utterly bereft of ideas aside from the most base-level banality of evil crap, drab and lifeless as cinema. just so so much I really dislike about the way glazer went about this.
