wow, i-
usually in war films you see an early twenty something year old guy go off to witness the horrors of war, but to see a young boy - no less than fourteen - get stripped of all innocence/naiveté is absolutely horrific. and those close up face shots are truly a masterful depiction of cinema; I don’t know how to explain them but I feel they illustrate the characters’ entire thought processes within those moments way better than however words would have.
def going to rewatch, also to say I was baffled when flight of the bumblebee started playing is an understatement

this movie’s cinematography, color palette, and prowess of silence enthralls me into a world of dark green carhartts, worn flannels tucked into passed down wranglers, all encapsulated by a brown pair of raggedy steel toed boots. also how casey portrays grief and self pity in such a surreal and powerful way is honestly a work of art in itself, periodt.
