Galaxy Express 999: The Movie 1979
When I think of this film, the first word that comes to mind is 'heartache'.
It's at the center of every moment in the movie, with nearly every character having suffered a form of tremendous loss, each building upon the last before climaxing in an explosive finale that shows us that all we have is each other.
Regardless of the animation shortcomings in the final act of the film, the movie is hauntingly beautiful.

The thing about this film is that it isn't profoundly terrifying, but I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.
Longlegs utilizes numerous movie serial killer clichés as window dressing for a film ostensibly about childhood abuse. Sure there are secret coded messages, creepy dolls and satanic imagery, but babe the call is coming from inside the house.
