This scene was an important part of my life so I’m based towards it, but as a fan who fully immersed themself in all of these bands in 2000 and on, this is a treat.  Read the book, watched the doc a few times, it always takes me back.

ZEF - The Story of Die Antwoord

    ★★½

This is the story of Die Antwoord as they would like it to be told.  And in that regard it’s a well made film.  The bias of the doc is very clear however, very much glazing over, or flat out ignoring the many controversies this band has been involved in.

Sisu is a thrill ride where you leave your logic at the door and enjoy an action packed sensory overload.  This is a spectacle full of beautiful cinematography, a fantastic score and sound design and some truly creative kills.  I’ve seen a lot of horror and action films and this film had a few things I had not seen before.  Probably best seen in a theatre with a crowd that will cheer and gasp at all the right moments.

Leaving the cinema, I told my friend “you could walk into this movie at any point and you’ll say “yeah that’s a Cronenberg movie””.  Basically meaning that the legend himself is back to some of his regular themes of bio-technology, love & sex, and art.  A lot of hype around this movie was “a return to body horror” and while that’s partially true, I’d barely call this horror, it’s a story of love and art in a perverse dream.

    I’d love…
