It’s evident this is early in Kurosawa’s career. Story is clever and I can enjoy the characters however he used a sequence that physically hurt my brain. Why does Kurosawa decide to through a ten minute sequence of detective looking for gun dealers. Ten minutes. There’s no need the point would’ve been made with a thirty second sequence. It really took me out of the story and was a terrible example of pacing. His use of weather is consistent and awe inspiring which carried the film. Probably wouldn’t watch again.

The Brutalist 2024
I found the first half of the film to be intriguing. It had a really crisp developed feel to it that really captivated the viewer. This first half captures the bleak reality of the American dream and it inspires hope that this may change further on into the story. The second half however felt a bit… anticlimactic to me. The epilogue for me felt clumsy and lacked the depth the film started with.
