Beautiful aesthetics, atmosphere and music.
A bizarre, Lynchian nightmare. Once you go deeper and understand the whole trans allegory behind the story, it’s really brilliant and well done.
“We belong dead”
This is the rare sequel that not only equals the origial film, but surpasses it. Karloff’s performance as the monster reaches new heights, whilst Elsa Lanchester as The Bride for only a mere 3 minutes of screen-time, provides one of the immortal images of the cinema with lightning-like streaks of silver in her towering hair. She gives an excellent performance despite her limited dialog, all sold with facial expressions, body language, and some hissing and screaming. Its such a beautifully done film, with beautiful gothic, vintage horror movie aesthetics, great production value and a wonderful musical score, this movie is simply timeless.
Frankenstein (1931) is almost a completely different story from Mary Shelley’s incredible masterpiece, but an amazing classic in it’s own right. With its beautiful, timeless vintage horror aesthetics and brilliant performances by Boris Karloff as The Monster and Colin Clive as Dr. Frankenstein delivering the iconic “IT’S ALIVE!” line … it’s has its rightful place in cinematic history.
