I found that Fonda's role in this pressure-cooker of emotions and handling of personalities while questioning the innocence of this young kid was absolutely engaging as well as thoroughly thought provoking. I felt as in the moment with the characters and following along each's interpretations and experiences, and the eventual flip of every individual after true reflection of the innocence of the kid. As Lumet's first feature, he definitely swung with an amazing start to an everlasting career.
I mean... it's a musical, and not the most amazing kind. I liked the overall message but it just felt off a note like it wasn't fulfilling something. And maybe that's the point, but it didn't hit the right feeling.
This film felt like the perfect essence of poetic revenge. Am I putting a strong emphasis on a heist film, probably, but when you finish WRATH OF MAN, it does something, making one feel satisfied and feel like revenge is the sweetest reward, understanding full well of the circumstances to make such a spiteful character do what he did. Now, this is me returning to review this film, and you know what, I might just rewatch it.
