  First Blood 1982

  A lot more emotional and impactful than I expected. I had thought this would be dumb fun action but it really was more of a commentary on post-service treatment of veterans, ptsd, and the horrors of war. it was great how everything silently built up to Rambo’s rant at the end of the movie. Want to see the sequels but sadly don’t look as good as this one.

  Abrupt ending worked really well for me. Honestly shocked me where they left the movie off. But this was great, as my expectations as a viewer were mislead. The story spends so much time with the protagonist trying to prove murder but then turns its attention away from that abruptly in the end. The lingering shot of travolta with the flashing lights in the background after he kills the murderer is great. 

  Also wish there was more to the ending, left me wanting more. Maybe the fact it didn’t end in a typical way makes it stand out more.

  Full Metal Jacket 1987

  Kubrick is a master. Amazing, save some pacing and story issues in the second half. It’s obvious that the first half shines the most, but I got almost as much out of the second half. The story lacks firm structure, but this seems purposeful in demonstrating the horrors of war and duality of man. Interesting look at dehumanizing effects of war and military.
