Tarkovsky's films are almost unreviewable to me. And that is because of their character and the way they are presented. Nostalgia is presented exceptionally. We see how the protagonist is indifferent and alienated in Italy, while conducting research on a Russian composer's life from the 18th century. Adapted from Shakespeare's famous work, it is a valiant effort in presenting the story of Macbeth with as little of scenery as possible. And yet, the minimalistic set design further elevates the film's symbolism to great heights.
