  I can’t say if this film was ahead of its time but I can say that many scenes and even the dialogue reminded me of present day serial killer shows. 

  Bertrand is able to create a convincing murderer / prosecutor relationship and he brings out many of the same emotions that are now so popular to watch  on true crime documentaries or serial killer biopics.

  
  Additionally pleasing is Bertrand’s use of diagetic music. Two opera songs sung, an accordion song…
