It’s sad to see Marron’s unique and frankly amazing attempt at adapting the book be misinterpreted and co-opted by meme culture.
Besides the cinematography being masterful, the film delivers a sharp, sardonic portrait of the moral bankruptcy and hollow excess that defined (and continues to define) a generation of yuppies in the era of 80s crony capitalism. I love the final punchline. A homicidal sociopath of all people breaks down and admits his horrifying deeds only for his confession to fall on deaf ears too preoccupied with their own “masks” and interests.

There Will Be Blood 2007
Phenomenal from its soundtrack and cinematography to the storytelling and characters. There is a lot to unpack about human nature, robber-baron capitalism, religion and power. If there are any movies that demand to be watched twice or more, There Will Be Blood is high on the list.
