  The style is still here and effects are still great but I think the more explicit narrative just gives you a lot less to chew on afterwards.

  I had the cheat code of watching this with a friend that really likes tsukamoto and has watched this like 4 times. Being able to discuss it with him illuminated a lot that would otherwise go unappreciated. I think I would be fine with turning into a writhing mass of metal if a chu ishikawa song was playing.
