28 Days Later 2002
Phenomenal. I can’t believe I missed this for so long. I think I was never interested bc the sequel would play on cable all the time and it sucked. But this is like the perfect zombie movie! Love the lo-fi filmmaking, its sentimentality for the characters, its hatred of British industrialism and militarism, and mostly, I love the scene where they watch horses gallop majestically across a field and go “are they infected? no, they’re just horses” or something like that. Wonderful!!!

Pretty good! Great atmosphere, quite suspenseful. Some nice scary imagery. Nic cage always giving us something profound. Promising in the first half and the second half was a little less exciting and scary than I was hoping for it to be but whatever. It at least had a good sense of humor the whole time!
Edit: the more I think about this the more I appreciate how bizarre and singular it felt! I love the tonal control and general confidence it had in its notions of dread and the supernatural. You know what? The devil is pretty scary when you think about it.
