An incredibly satisfying watch in the context of today's superhero films. The Batman takes a delightfully grounded approach in portraying its titular vigilante as he is: a lonely, wounded man with reckless determination to change things for the better. The Batman's Gotham and its people feel plausible- at no point did the world feel fantastical nor its people inhuman. The Batman is not a loud, flashy amusement ride- it's an appropriately dark and layered film and, to much relief, one that does not come off as painfully shallow nor gratuitously edgy.
