    *potential spoiler warning*

This movie is spookier than any jump-scare slash-fest I’ve seen. Ed Norton gives one of the most haunting performances as a young choir boy on trial for the murder of his archbishop.

While the twist wasn’t surprising, it was handled masterfully and leaves the viewer — along with the arrogant and victorious Richard Gere — in a very disturbing place.

The reason it’s not 5 stars is cause Richard Gere’s character is pretty one note. Although that’s kind of the point of the movie. He was perfect for the roll.

    Coulda skipped this one.

While it was cool to see how the old school NYC subway was operated, that’s the only thing I liked about this movie.

Hostage situations are inherently exciting to watch, but this one lacks the sympathetic characters that others, like Dog Day Afternoon have. The criminals were dull, the hostages background rolls and the heroes— the cops and transit authorities— were a bunch of sexist, racist, incompetent buffoons. That last part is probably why they remade…

Captivating coming of age film about a teenage girl’s relationship with her mother. As the titular character Saoirse Ronan is charismatic and brash. The pacing of the film matches Lady Bird’s frantic behavior which in turn keeps the runtime at refreshingly brief 134 mins.
