    This film was made after Jaws and it shows. It's a clunky remix of Jaws and Moby Dick that ends up being cheesy in that particular over-serious 1970s way. I still can't believe they got the actual Ennio Morricone to write music for this. At least it's fun to riff on with friends.

    A beautifully-crafted animated film that was somewhat overlooked at first but more recently has been getting the recognition it deserves. Despite a few corny moments it is a charming homage to 1950s monster/alien invader movies with a heartwarming treatment of the misunderstood creature trope. Many characters and their struggles feel realistic even if the story they are in is over the top.
