This is the best romantic comedy I’ve ever seen. it had me in tears, and it also had me asking myself how I can get my cheekbones to look like that

I have no idea what to rate this because it wasn't that good and yet it still slayed? idk the fashion made up for a lot and it passes the bechdel test multiple times over so i cant give it the 2.5 stars it probably deserves

This film shows (intentionally and sometimes unintentionally) the colonial, capitalist, racist, and exploitative nature of the adoption industry.

I think it also is a portrait of a strangely self-gratifying (I can't think of a better word currently) kind of parenting that many people experience; there is an expectation that your child should reflect you and your identity (an extension/mirror of the self), which negates the autonomy and the self of the child.

It is not okay to expect a child…

    stop this is so cute
this captures a certain kind of girlhood ritual that I rarely see in art, but that was part of my own girlhood too - figuring out who you are by placing yourself under the altar of the aesthetic; trying to shape yourself around it and distracting yourself from the more difficult parts of adolescence through style-worship.
I also loved the friendship between the two girlies
I did not love the cartoon parts, I thought they were ugly and a distraction even if the tackiness fit well into the yankee storyline
