The Fabelmans 2022
I’ve been meaning to watch The Fabelmens for a while now, but I had remembered the response being a bit muted and Spielberg was never fully one of my guys. However, due to podcast related reasons, I’ve been watching for the first time or re-watching a lot of Spielberg’s early films and realizing I’ve really taken him for granted. The Gift 2000
This seems to be way under appreciated but it might be my favorite Sam Raimi film. Everything just really works for me. I think the southern gothic aura, a stacked cast, Raimi’s magical touch with spooky imagery, and Billy Bob Thornton’s ability to bring this very specific kind of southern drama to life, all serve to really elevate what is otherwise a simple murder mystery. I was kind of surprised to see that people are pretty indifferent to this. It has a bit of a sleepy vibe, but it’s really satisfying to let yourself be lulled into this world and watch the story unfold.
