A less interesting version of the (now classic) japanese film. Instead of forging it's own path and using the elements from the film it is based on, it tries to recreate it with diminished results.

It knows what it's doing and it does it well. A straightforward narrative that hits all the marks an Oscar-nominee should hit. Expertly done cinematography, a quick witted and no nonsense script, engaging acting, accurate/inspired art direction and a plot about over coming odds to acheive something that will change the world for the better. All the pieces fit to make a very pretty piece of filmmaking.
