Basic plot beats, basic character motivations, basic movie
. . . But the setting is great. The MCU is at its peak when it delves into fanstastic. The Mayan lore of Talokan is interesting and I really liked it. Even the origin of “Namor” (“el niño sin amor”). The solar punk tech and meeting of nature and technology looks great
But everything else about this movie is just so boring and mid
I really wanted to like this but just found it a slog to get through
Watched this with the little one and man this movie is so boring
It’s like they said “how can we remove anything remotely interesting from the first movie?”
I like the first trolls. Obviously it was no toy story, but you could send a little bit of heart in the film.
With this one, I didn’t really get that same sense
This movie is genuinely an epic and must be watched in IMAX
From a plot perspective, you really feel like the character choices matter. Even though the film is almost 3 hours long, I almost wish they were more scenes to just let the decisions of the characters breathe. Without spoiling, Paul makes a decision to travel and meet up with a larger group, and the film clearly demonstrates the impact but I wish there was more of a break…
Classic hip hop + mobsters + samurai = an awesome movie
Other reviews touch on why this is great but I wanted to highlight the filming location of Jersey City. Ghost Dog is considered an NYC classic movie by most but the fact that it’s set in Jersey City makes it feel more surreal for native NYers, if that makes sense. I don’t know if that was intentional on Jarmusch’s part but it added to the atmosphere
This is a dudes rock / immaculate vibes tier movie. It’s not an action flick. The vibes are the what matters
GOAT soundtrack as well
