    i loved this! i loved this. i have really enjoyed other stuff by bong joon-ho but like. you can't just put PARASITE on like that's an emoitonal goddamn gauntlet. i loved that this was a scifi comedy that you could just PUT ON, and i love that it was extremely competently made. it feels like a relic from a previous era. i loved going to the movies and seeing something for grown ups that wasn't a massive downer but was also well made by people who believed in it. can we please make more of these.

    never before in history has the pairing of an artist and a subject been so appropriate. if the text of the film is to be believed, oppenheimer was a man who was unable to meaningfully interpret the conclusions of the information before him. christopher nolan, like oppenheimer, has made a movie that is capable of regurgitating oppenheimer’s own mythmaking and the historiography of others, but fundamentally he is unable to make either thesis or synthesis from his sources.

    my spicest leftist opinion is that celebrity is a fundamentally exploited class of laborer, a person whose relative material stability and security is leveraged by their totalizing lack of agency and personal life. it's unimaginable, the amount of violence that props up every sector of the entertainment industry (of any industry).
    copyright law all but gurantees that art about popular artists will never be uncomfortable; there is no version of karen carpenter's story that is both honest and comfortable. superstar is uncomfortable.
