A beautiful essay on adapting and flourishing as an immigrant. When I lived abroad, friends back home kept asking me about my roots and where would I plant them. I always replied that some roots don’t need to be planted. This movie reflects that feeling beautifully. At the same time, it contrasts the tenderness of flourishing with the hardship of life in the city and construction, which to me alluded to the hardship of migrating. I also loved the connection with trains, which I saw as an expression of fluidity and constant transition between loving and hating being a migrant.
