I love Ming-liang's directing style here, but not making plot the focal point of the movie doesn't excuse this predictable and quite frankly boring ending.
Whole film is constructed around keeping the atmosphere tense- restricted and often awkward dialogues, elongated scenes, risk taking as an inherent part of the story. All that while creating a heavy sense of isolation and "big city loneliness".

First 50 minutes are hilarious, very good comedy. But then right before the halfway mark there's a sudden tonal shift and the rest of the movie just doesn't work quite as well. It slows down, either spends too much time on some of it's threads (military stuff had no reason to get so much screen time) or story choices are a bit cliche and at certain point made my interest fizzle out a little.
