Looking from both his & hers perspective… they both knew it was wrong but in a way both seemed to somewhat enjoy the bond they never experienced before. With the teachers regret of herself or kids not turning out to be the way she may have wanted, and with Jimmy’s “deceased” mother, the relationship was desired but ultimately wrong. I love that she recognized his talent and wanted him to be heard by the world but she was miserable and wanted to live through his success hand in hand for her own satisfaction and he deserved so much better than that.
