King Rocker 2020
I had no idea who Robert Lloyd or the Nightingales were before watching this (nor that there used to be a giant King Kong statue in Birmingham) and yet I had way more fun than any Friday night BBC4 hagiography of a band I know and love. Stewart Lee’s in his element here as superfan narrator and Lloyd is great company throughout. The gentle piss-taking tone ensures that the more gimmicky touches work too, like how Lee interweaves the story…
