Excellent performances are the standout aspect of the film. Ralph Fiennes in particular tells so much about the character with only his expressions that at least one scene was made significantly better than in the book by excising dialogue and allowing his acting to speak for itself.
The setting is a nice change of pace for a thriller, and it's kinda retrospectively funny just how well this real-life scenario lends itself to this type of movie.

An extremely visual movie. The lighting work is some of the best I've ever seen, and the movie has sequences spread out along the runtime that are exemplary in terms of horror filmmaking craftsmanship.
